Things to do

Looking for something to do whilst staying at Conach House?  Cambridge, winner of the Most Beautiful Large Town in 2019 has so much to offer.  If the bustling town with beautiful shops for a retail therapy hit that would satisfy the most addicted shopper isn't your cup of tea, then check out just a little bit of what else Cambridge has to offer.

The Te Awa River Ride Trail is now complete, starting at Lake Karapiro (conveniently where you are staying!) and heads all the way through to Ngaruawahia.  If the full 65km is not your thing, the trail is broken down into 4 sections, so you can choose to head to Cambridge, or onto the Velodrome for lunch at The Bikery, or onto Hamilton Gardens for a walk around the world famous gardens.

Is food your thing!  You cannot go past the amazing eateries Cambridge has to offer.  For a full tantalising description of what Cambridge has to offer check out 'Taste of Cambridge'.  Here is a little snippet to get your mouth watering!

Fancy something a little more casual but just as delicious!  Check out the Cambridge Farmers Market on every Saturday Morning at the Town Square and just a short stroll from Conach House is the super delicious Berry Box Real Fruit Ice Cream (open from Nov till Easter)

Those looking for something a little something more you can't go past Riverside Adventures Bike & Kayak Tours.  Take a guided kayak tour down the Waikato River by day or experience the magic of New Zealand glow worms at twilight.

Fancy a walk?  Cambridge is home to Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari (Maungatautari Ecological Island Reserve).  Sanctuary Mountain is the largest ecological ‘island’ on mainland New Zealand. A haven for native wildlife and plants such as kiwi, kokako (wattlebird), tuatara and more, Maungatautari also provides great walking and hiking tracks.  Surrounded by 47kms of predator proof fence which encloses 3,400 hectares of Mt Maungatautari, the Maungatautari Ecological Island Trust strives to eradicate mammalian predators so that native bird populations, trees and ferns are able to flourish uninhibited.  Go and explore one (or all) of the many walking tracks and maybe you will get to have lunch with one of the cheeky Kaka's (I did!)

For more information on what Cambridge has to offer check out the Destination Cambridge Website or pop into our local Information Centre.
